Paul Chretien ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ): History of the Tupper Lake Motel

My name is Paul Chretien and I have just been looking over the TL Motel Website. I think it looks great. Your motel holds a very special place in my heart and I'd like to tell you why. My family was the original owners of the Tupper Lake Motel. I was just a year old when the first 7 rooms of the motel were built. (1956) In 1960, we built the next 5 rooms up to #12, beyond the breeze-way. The remaining 6 rooms (13 thru 18) were built in 1962. In the fall of 1970, we put in the pool and pumphouse and covered it, opening it for the first time in may of 1971. For years, from the beginning, the parking lot was unpaved and covered with silver and white pebbles until approximately 1966 or 67 and in 1965... where the pool is located now... we had an oval shaped "island" with lounge chairs and tables for customers to sit and relax. My grandfather, Thomas J. Chretien, was the actual owner of the motel when built. This was the second motel he had built in Tupper Lake. The first being the "U" motel. which is now the Park Street Apartments located on the corner of Lincoln Drive and Park St. My father, Real V. Chretien, operated the motel the entire time of our familys' ownership until he sold it in 1977. I thought you might like to know a little of the history of your motel. My wife and I are planning a trip to Tupper some time in Aug. and we will stop in to say hello. I wish you the best of luck always. Paul V. Chretien

Our room was very comfortable. I was happy to find a grocery store across the street.

I would just like to say that Tupper Lake Motel is one of the best places to stay when visiting Tupper or surrounding areas. My entire family and I visit at least once a year, every year, for as long as I can remember.
